In order for anti-virus software to be effective is must be kept up to date with current virus definitions, scans must be performed regularly and policies must be uniformly enforced on all systems. Many companies rely on anti virus software that came bundled with their computer or buy individual consumer versions of products like McAfee or Norton Anti-Virus. What most don't realize is that these software programs come with a time limited access to updates and must be individually configured to update virus definitions and scan files. Also, when the complimentary subscription expires, each copy must be individually registered and access to the update services purchased separately for each client. While this technique works fine for networks of a few computers or less, the preferred solution in most businesses is a managed anti-virus product like Symantec Anti Virus Corporate Edition. The corporate edition uses a client server model whereby all client software is centrally managed and updated from the server. The program can be configured to push out updates to all clients nightly. Settings like frequency of scans, are configured one time at the server and automatically enforced on all clients. Access to the virus definition updates are purchased once annually and made available to all servers and clients in the network. Managed Anti-Virus solutions can "lock down" client settings, enforce standard policies and prevent users from disabling virus protection. What's more - all this comes at a price that is comparable to unmanaged solution in networks of 5 computers or more. Linear B Networks can deploy either unmanaged or managed anti-virus protection for your systems. If you think you already have a virus, we can do what ever is necessary to clean the bugs out. When we install managed anti-virus software on existing networks and perform the first full network scan, we frequently find one or more computers with a variety of viruses. Anti-virus protection should never be neglected.
